Public Schools
Rockdale County has long been recognized as having one of the best school systems in the State of Georgia. Each public school in the Conyers/Rockdale area provides academic, cultural, and social opportunities for the students. Every school meets the "Standards for Public Schools of Georgia" and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
In addition, eleven schools have been named Georgia Schools of Excellence, and four schools have been named National Schools of Excellence.
The Rockdale County school system is governed by a seven-member Board of Education that is elected by the community. The system has twenty schools including eleven elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, and three special entities: the Alpha School, the Evening Academy, and the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology.
The school system serves over 14,000 students and employs more than 2,000 certified and classified staff members. More than 50% of the teachers have advanced degrees, including education specialists, masters, or doctorates, and an average of 15 years teaching experience.

- Between the years 1998 and 2000, the dropout rate for Rockdale County students was lower than that for the State of Georgia

Colleges
Georgia Perimeter College has a local branch at the Rockdale Center for Higher Education. The center offers lower division classes leading to an associate's degree, upper division classes, continuing education and general education development. Oxford College at Emory University and DeKalb Technical College's Covington campus are just a few miles east of Conyers.
Other exceptional colleges within close proximity to Conyers include the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech, Emory University, and others.
