Alcohol Beverage Licensing

If you plan to open a retail store that sells beer, wine and/or liquor, you are required to purchase an Alcoholic Beverage License from the city of Conyers and also from the state of Georgia.  The Alcoholic Beverage License checklist is below which lists all of the steps you must take in order to apply for the license.  You are required to visit the Planning and Inspection Services Department at 1174 Scott Street to purchase the $10.00 application package.  You must complete the package in its entirety and bring it in person to the office.  The instructions on how to apply for the state of Georgia's Alcoholic Beverage License is in the application package that you purchase from the Planning office.  You must have both licenses in order to order beer or wine from a distributor.

If you plan to open a restaurant or bar that serves alcoholic beverages by the drink you will go through a similar process in obtaining your Alcoholic Beverage Licenses from the city of Conyers and the state of Georgia.  In addtion to the above requirements, all employees that will be preparing or serving alcoholic beverages are required to obtain a servers permit.  The employees must apply in person at the City of Conyers Police Department.  The cost of a servers permit is $10.00.

In addition to the Alcoholic Beverage License, you are also required to apply for an Occupation Tax Registration permit.  The cost of this permit ranges from $195.00 to $225.00 per year.  All permit fees are renewed every year and are due on January 1.  Penalties are assessed beginning February 1 for permit fees that are late.

• Print out the Alcoholic Beverage Licensing application checklist and review the steps listed to complete an Alcohol Beverage License. Copies are also available at the Planning and Inspection Services Department.
• Visit the Department of Planning and Inspection Services at 1174 Scott Street to purchase the $10 application folder. Review the contents thoroughly and complete the application in its entirety.  
• Bring the completed application form to the Department of Planning and Inspection Services at: 1174 Scott Street in Conyers.
• A non-refundable $50.00 application fee is also due at that time.
• Remember to review the Alcohol License Application Checklist to make sure you have followed the proper steps.
