Libra Denmon Named Employee of the Year

Post Date:12/12/2016 7:50 AM

Libra Denmon, office manager of the city's Planning and Inspection Services Department, was named the 2016 Employee of the Year at thee Mayor's State of the City Address.

Here is the transcript of the announcement of Employee of the Year by City Manager Tony Lucas:

Our award for Employee of the Year is named the Dee Buggay Award of Excellence because Dee exemplifies every trait and attribute we would like to see in a public servant and especially in a city employee.

There are many employees at the city that take great pride and do more than most in their jobs, but one in particular comes to mind this year and that is our 2016 Employee of the Year.

The 2016 Employee of the Year is very much a behind-the-scenes, no-nonsense, hardworking and efficient employee, but definitely has a fun personality and zest for life. This person was born and raised in Atlanta and in high school was a member of the Navy Junior ROTC and became the first female African-American all city commander of Atlanta. She also received a scholarship offer from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. After graduating valedictorian of her class at Luther Price High School, she attended and graduated from Park University as salutatorian with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

This employee’s husband is a retired United States Air Force veteran and during his years of service, they lived in Germany for five years and visited the United Kingdom, Italy and France. Today, she and her husband, Kennie, are proud of their son, Chanse, who will graduate from Georgia College and State University this May. In her spare time, this employee loves to spend time with her family, is an avid reader and loves watching movies.

Kennie says his wife has filled a number of positions during her career, mostly related to accounting, and in every position, she has been identified as a top-notch worker who is always looking to make the work environment better than it was before she got there for coworkers and customers. This employee has received numerous accolades from the public on our city Facebook page, in letters and emails, for her superior customer service in the Planning and Inspections Department.

It is with great pride and excitement that we present the Employee of the Year Award to Libra Denmon.
