Sharon Morgan, Employee of the Year
Human Resources Manager Sharon Morgan was named the 2017 Employee of the Year at the Mayor's State of the City Address.
The event, held at Cherokee Run Golf Club on January 10, 2018, celebrated the accomplishments of the city of Conyers over the past year, honored outgoing Mayor Randy Mills and Council Member Chris Bowen, and featured the swearing-in of new Mayor Vince Evans, Council Member Cleveland Stroud and Council Member Blair Barksdale. The recipient of the city's Dee Buggay Award of Excellence (Employee of the Year) is also honored and this year's recipient was Sharon Morgan, human resources manager and 32 year employee of the city of Conyers.
City Manager Tony Lucas shared the following in introducing the Employee of the Year, "The award for Employee of the Year is named the Dee Buggay Award of Excellence because former Human Resources Director Dee Buggay exemplified every trait and attribute we would like to see in a public servant and especially in a city employee."
"There are many employees at the City that take great pride and do more than most in their jobs, but one is being singled out this year and that is our 2017 Employee of the Year. This employee is kind, friendly, hardworking, dedicated, detailed, and loyal."
"This employee grew up in a large family in Newton County. Perhaps the important role this employee plays at the city can be attributed to growing up in and being part of a loving family. Prior to starting with the city in 1986, this employee and her sister operated a cleaning service. What started as a temporary job at the city turned into a permanent one and the rest is history and to the city’s great fortune. This employee has worked in three departments over the course of their career at the city: finance, the water department and human resources."
"Over the last nearly 32 years, this employee has met every single person ever employed by the city. This employee conducts orientation for new employees, files insurance and fields retirement questions and follows up on worker’s comp cases, organizes employee programs and is perhaps best known for all of her hard work pulling together our annual Thanksgiving luncheon and Christmas party year after year. Upon Dee Buggay’s retirement in 2015, this employee nearly singlehandedly ran the human resources department without batting an eye."
"This employee loves to travel, particularly to any warm location, specifically the beach, and anywhere family members are present. A week after turning 17 years old, she got married and has been happily married to her husband Jeff for 41 years. They have three daughters, Julie, Elaine and Kati, and four grandchildren. In her spare time, the 2017 Employee of the Year loves shopping and watching horror movies with her only grandson, Braden, since her husband won’t watch them with her. It is with great pleasure that I present the 2017 Dee Buggay Award of Excellence to Human Resources Manager Sharon Morgan."
