Adventure Mountain at 15

Post Date:04/06/2016 1:22 PM

One of the more popular pieces of art in Conyers turns 15 years old this April. “Adventure Mountain,” located in the Travis Street roundabout in Olde Town Conyers behind the Nancy Guinn Memorial Library, was dedicated on April 26, 2001 in the midst of the Olde Town revitalization project. The revitalization project of the commercial district resulted in new sidewalks, pavers, burial of power lines, new lighting and landscaping and was a multi-million dollar project that took nearly two years to complete.

The Adventure Mountain bronze fountain depicting four children climbing a mountain for a day’s adventure was purchased from a company in China by a group of local community residents and business owners who raised the $8,000 to purchase, ship and install the fountain. Today the fountain and the landscaping are maintained by the city of Conyers.

Residents of the Conyers Housing Authority units in the area have been known during the holiday season to lovingly decorate the fountain with tinsel and ornaments. The fountain is also a popular photo opportunity in the winter months when the water freezes and creates a frozen sculpture.
