Mayor Connie Alsobrook, the thirty-third mayor in the city’s history – and its first female and Black mayor – was sworn in at the Conyers City Council meeting held at Cherokee Run Golf Club on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Nearly 200 were in attendance to witness the historic swearing-in of Alsobrook, as well as the swearing-in of Anthony Pacheco, the city’s first Hispanic city council member representing District 1, and the swearing-in of Charlie Bryant, council member for District 2, Post 1, for his second term.
Rockdale County Chief Magistrate Judge Phinia Aten administered the oath of office to Mayor Alsobrook who was joined by her daughter, Miranda. Rockdale County Superior Court Judge Nancy Bills administered the oath of office to Council Member Pacheco, who was joined by his mother, and also administered the oath of office to Council Member Charlie Bryant.
Celebratory remarks were delivered by Reverend Al Sadler and Hightower Trail Elementary School third-grader Kenyawn Bennett.
When asked what being elected as mayor means to her, Mayor Alsobrook said, “This win represents a commitment by the people of Conyers to progress, fairness, and inclusive leadership. It signals a desire for a city that listens to its residents and values every neighborhood. This moment is about unity, trust, and moving Conyers forward together.”
Mayor Alsobrook and the City Council will immediately start planning for 2026 and beyond at the Mayor and Council Retreat, January 9-11, at Trilith Guesthouse in Fayetteville, Georgia.
“My plan is to ensure Conyers is a city of inclusion, where every resident has access to the same resources and opportunities, regardless of which side of town they live on. That means transparency leadership, open door mayor and policies that uplifted all communities. I am focused on building a city where everyone feels seen, heard, supported, and safe.”
