The Conyers City Council has announced its intention to roll back the millage rate from 13.5 mills to 13.296 mills. This will be the eighth year in the past twelve years where the city has lowered the millage rate, with five of them being the full rollback.
Each year, the board of tax assessors is required to review the assessed value for property tax purposes of taxable property in the city. When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the city indicate there has been an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the board of tax assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of such property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment.
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year's new digest that last year's millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.
““I am excited that the City of Conyers is able to adopt the full rollback millage rate for our residents, especially at a time when families are facing increasing costs in their everyday lives,” said Mayor Connie Alsobrook. “This rollback reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and making every taxpayer dollar count while continuing to provide the quality services our community expects and deserves.”
The City Council will hold a called meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, 901 O’Kelly Street, for the purpose of setting the millage rate.
